May 16, 2009 (from “Garden”)

Today we irrigated for the first time this season.  We were the first one on our weir to use it this year, so we spent last night and very early this morning clearing out the 1/2 mile or so water ditch (where the water travels from the weir) of debris.  Each year the canal for our weir is opened around May 15. The water comes from the Utah Lake in Provo, Utah (10-15 miles south of us).

In a few days the ground will be ready to till and plant our vegetable seedlings and seeds!

This is the ditch that runs along our property.

About Tom and Dee

This blog is devoted to the most excellent adventures of Tom and Dee. These adventures include camping, hiking and backpacking; events; and family gatherings. The photo at the top of this blog was taken on March 27, 2008 in the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument in beautiful Southern Utah.

Every year we take many hiking, camping, and backpacking trips and we make at least one long trip (about 3 weeks) across the country in our car. This is in addition to the few travel events we take by plane to visit family on the east coast. The advent and development of digital photography and technology has permitted us to take and download (to our laptops) our photo archives as we travel and share our photos worldwide with all our friends and family.

More complete accounts and photos can be found at Tom and Dee’s Excellent Adventures original webpage.
